 Famous People Day
The primary Department at the Moog Center for Deaf Education recently completed a Social Studies unit about famous people. The culmination of their studies was celebrated at Famous People Day.
   

  


NEIL ARMSTRONG 

Neil Armstrong was an astronaut. He was the first man to walk on the moon.

   

  

MARY CASSAT

Mary Cassat was an artist. She loved to draw and paint.
She liked to paint pictures of mothers and children.

   

  

MATTHEW HENSON

Matthew Henson was an explorer. He loved to travel all over the world. He was the first man to reach the North Pole.

   

  

MICHAEL PHELPS

Michael Phelps is a swimmer. When he was a little boy, he was afraid to put his head in the water. However, he won eight gold medals.

   

  


ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL

Alexander Graham Bell's mother was deaf and she was his teacher.
He taught deaf children to talk. He made the first telephone.

   

  


AMELIA EARHART

Amelia Earhart was a pilot.
She was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

   

  

HELEN KELLER

Helen Keller was deaf and blind. The first word she learned was water. She went to college and wrote books.

   

  

BETSY ROSS

Betsy Ross made the first American Flag.
It had thirteen stripes and thirteen stars.

   

  

GEORGE HERMAN RUTH
(Babe Ruth)

Babe Ruth played baseball. He hit lots of home runs.
One time, he hit a ball over 600 feet.

Elizabeth Blackwell was born on February 3, 1821. She was the first woman doctor.

Thomas Alva Edison was an inventor, scientist and businessman.

   

  

CHARLES LINDBERGH

Charles Lindberg was a pilot. His nickname was Lucky Lindy.

   

  

WILMA RUDOLPH

Wilma Rudolph was very sick. But she was the first
American woman to win three gold medals in the Olympics.
